Landscape lighting in Las Vegas, designed for after dark

In this climate the yard gets used after sunset for half the year. Unlit, it is a room with the lights off.

A desert garden after sunset with a designed lighting scheme: an agave uplit so its leaves throw hard shadows onto the wall behind, a tree lit from below, low path lights along a walkway and a pool glowing from within, with the rest of the garden left dark.Landscape Lighting in the Las Vegas valley

Lighting is the cheapest thing you can do to a finished yard and the one most often left until there is no budget left for it. It is also the difference between a backyard that stops existing at seven in the evening and one that gets used until eleven.

Good lighting here is mostly restraint. A few uplights on the trees that have structure worth showing. Enough path light to see the step change, and not one fixture more. Something warm on the seating area. Nothing pointed at anybody’s eyes, and nothing pointed at the neighbors.

The part that decides whether it lasts

Fixtures are the visible half. The half that determines whether the system still works in five years is the transformer size, the wire gauge and the connections. Undersized wire on a long run gives you dim fixtures at the far end and a transformer working harder than it should. Connections made with the wrong splice fill with water and corrode.

We size the transformer with headroom for the circuit you will want to add later, because you will.

What this covers

Every part of the job, under one team

Lighting design

What gets lit and what deliberately does not, planned before conduit goes under anything permanent.

Path and step lighting

Enough light to read a grade change, positioned so nobody is looking into a fixture.

Uplighting and trees

Structure and texture picked out on the specimens worth showing, at an intensity that does not flatten them.

Pool and water feature lighting

Lighting the water without turning the surround into a stage, and coordinated with the pool controls.

Transformers, wiring and controls

Sized with headroom, connected to survive moisture, and put on a timer or an app depending on how you actually live.

Lighting care

Fixtures drift, lenses fog, timers lose their schedule after a power cut and a buried splice eventually finds water. Lighting care is a scheduled visit that re-aims what has moved, cleans and reseals the lenses, tests the transformer load and resets the controller for the season. It is the difference between a lighting scheme that still looks designed in year five and one that has become four working fixtures and a dark garden.

Common questions

What homeowners ask us first

Low voltage or line voltage?

Low voltage for almost everything in a residential yard. Safer to work on, cheaper to extend, and the fixture quality at the top end is now genuinely good.

Can lighting be added to a finished yard?

Yes, and often with less disruption than people expect, though running cable under an existing paver patio is the one case where doing it at build time would have saved real money.
