Tree trimming in Las Vegas, done for the tree and the wind

Most tree damage in this valley happens in about twenty minutes of monsoon wind, to trees that were pruned wrong in April.

A mature palo verde with a green trunk and a correctly raised, open canopy giving clear headroom over a paver path, with a date palm alongside whose crown has been trimmed to an even open head, and the ground below swept clean.Tree Trimming in the Las Vegas valley

Desert trees fail in predictable ways. A palo verde with a dense, unthinned canopy catches wind like a sail and goes over at the root plate. A mesquite that was topped instead of thinned responds with a mass of weak vertical growth that snaps at the union. An overwatered, overfertilised tree grows faster than its root system and leans.

Pruning here is structural work with a weather deadline. Done properly it thins the canopy so wind passes through, keeps the branch structure balanced over the trunk, and removes the unions that are going to fail before they fail.

What we will not do

We do not top trees. Topping is the fastest way to make a tree look smaller and the most reliable way to guarantee you a bigger problem in three years, because everything that regrows from a topping cut is weakly attached.

We also will not prune a desert tree hard in the middle of summer. Removing canopy in July exposes bark that has never seen direct sun, and sunscald on a mesquite or a palo verde is permanent.

What this covers

Every part of the job, under one team

Structural pruning

Thinning for wind and correcting branch structure, so the tree holds together through monsoon season.

Canopy raising and clearance

Clearance over patios, walkways, roofs and the pool, done without ruining the shape.

Deadwood and hazard removal

Taking out what is already dead or already failing, which is usually the cheapest work on the property.

Palm trimming

Skinning and frond removal on the schedule palms actually need, not on the schedule that sells the most visits.

Ongoing plant health

Watching the same trees across years, so a decline gets caught as a pattern rather than as an emergency.

Common questions

What homeowners ask us first

When should desert trees be pruned here?

Late winter into early spring for structure, and a light thin before monsoon season. Heavy summer pruning risks sunscald on species with thin bark.

My tree is leaning. Is it going to fall?

Maybe. A lean that developed slowly over years is usually stable. A lean that appeared after a storm is a root plate problem and should be looked at quickly.
