Pool leak detection in Las Vegas

In this climate a pool that loses water is normal. The question is whether it is losing more than evaporation explains.

A leak detection test set up at a pool: a pressure gauge on a brass test manifold threaded onto the plumbing, a hose running to a hand pump on the deck, expansion plugs seated in the pool returns, and a water-filled bucket sitting on the top step.Leak Detection in the Las Vegas valley

A Las Vegas pool can lose a quarter inch a day to evaporation in midsummer without anything being wrong. That is the reason leaks go undetected here for months: the loss looks like the climate.

The first step is a bucket test, which separates evaporation from a real leak and costs nothing. If it is a leak, the next question is where, and that is worth doing properly because the alternative is exploratory demolition.

How it gets found

Structural leaks in the shell, the light niche, the skimmer throat and the returns each behave differently, and you can narrow it a long way by watching where the water stops. Pressure testing the lines isolates the plumbing from the shell. Dye testing and listening equipment find the rest.

The cost of finding it properly is a fraction of the cost of guessing wrong once. We have been called to pools where somebody opened a deck on the wrong side.

What a leak actually costs you here

Water is metered and a persistent leak runs twenty four hours a day, but the bill is rarely the expensive part. The expensive part is what the water does on its way out. A line leaking under a paver deck saturates the base, the base loses compaction, and the deck settles. A shell leak behind the plaster moves soil away from the structure. A skimmer throat crack wets the bond beam and works at it every freeze the valley gets.

None of that is dramatic at week one and all of it is a real repair by month six, which is the argument for testing early rather than watching the level and hoping.

What this covers

Every part of the job, under one team

Bucket test and diagnosis

Separating real loss from evaporation before anybody charges you for anything.

Pressure testing

Isolating the plumbing from the shell so the search narrows to one or the other.

Structural leak location

Shell cracks, light niches, skimmer throats and returns, each of which loses water in its own pattern.

Underground line location

Finding the line and the point of failure before opening a deck.

Repair

Fixing what is found, including the deck or surface work to put it back.

Common questions

What homeowners ask us first

How much water loss is normal?

Up to about a quarter inch a day in the hottest part of summer, less in shoulder seasons. Consistently more than that, especially in cooler months, is worth a bucket test.

Will you have to break the deck?

Sometimes, and locating properly is exactly what keeps that to one small opening in the right place instead of several in the wrong ones.
